Correspondence in the Wild West

Turn your journal pages into letters. Rip a page from your journal or custom books, fold it into an envelope, and send it to anyone in the gang. Experience the full immersion of 1899 postal service with realistic mechanics, post offices across the map, and even responses from NPCs.

How It Works

  Ripping Pages

  Open your journal or a custom book, select a page, and hold P for 3 seconds to rip it out. The page tears away with a smooth animation and appears as a loose sheet in an overlay.

  • D - Drop the sheet in the world
  • L - Convert it into a letter
  • ESC - Restore the page back to your journal

  Creating a Letter

  After ripping a page, press L to start the letter flow. Watch as the page folds in half and slides into an envelope with beautiful animations. An envelope overlay appears where you can write the sender and recipient.

  Addressing Envelopes

  An envelope overlay appears with two fields to fill out:

  • W - Activate writing mode (auto-focuses the "To:" field)
  • Click on "From:" or "To:" fields to focus them and type
  • D - Enter drawing mode to decorate the envelope
  • E - Toggle eraser (in drawing mode)
  • Z / X - Adjust eraser size (8-40px)

  Saving Letters

  When both "From" and "To" fields have at least one character, the save option becomes available:

  • S - Save the letter to your collection
  • ESC - Cancel and restore the page back to your journal/book

  Post Offices

  Visit one of 19 post offices located across the map in cities like Valentine, Blackwater, Saint Denis, Rhodes, and more. When you approach a postbox, you'll see a prompt.

  • E - Open the Post Office menu

  From the Post Office menu you can:

  • Buy Envelopes - $5.00 for 1,000 envelopes
  • Send a Letter - Send pending letters ($0.10 each)
  • Read My Letters - Browse your collection

  Realistic Mode

  When Realistic Mode is enabled, letters require envelopes to send. This adds immersion and resource management to your correspondence.

  • Envelopes: Buy at Post Office for $5.00 (gets you 1,000)
  • Sending Cost: $0.10 per letter (free if only 1 pending)
  • Pending System: Letters go to "Pending" first, then you send them from Post Office

  Reading Your Letters

  Open the Post Office menu and select "Read My Letters" to browse your collection. Use the carousel view to navigate through your letters.

  • Arrows ← → - Navigate through letters
  • TAB - Switch between Sent and Received
  • O / ENTER - Open and read a letter
  • DEL - Delete a letter
  • ESC - Close the inbox

  NPC Responses

  Characters in the gang can respond to your letters based on keywords you write. For example, if you write to Dutch about a "plan" or "money", he might respond with his own message.

  Currently, the system uses predefined responses based on keywords, but an AI-powered version is coming for Supporters that will enable truly dynamic and personalized conversations.
