Carry a collection of books wherever you roam in the Wild West. From religious texts like the Bible to adventure novels, your personal library travels with you in your satchel. Each book is rendered with authentic 1899 aesthetics, complete with unique covers, chapter navigation, and bookmarks.

How It Works

  Opening Your Book Satchel

  Hold B for 3 seconds to open your satchel of books.

  • Carousel interface - Displays your entire collection
  • Book covers - Each book shows its unique cover with title, author, and year

  Configurable in WriteYourJourney.ini: Key=B under [CustomBooks]

  Browsing Your Collection

  Use the carousel to browse through your books.

  • Arrows ← → - Navigate through your books
  • ENTER - Open the selected book and start reading
  • ESC - Close the satchel

  Reading Your Books

  Once inside a book, the book opens in a spread view (two pages at a time) just like a real book.

  • Arrow Keys - Flip through pages
  • K - Set a bookmark at your current page
  • ENTER - Select a specific page
  • Click - Select a page directly

  Chapter Index & Navigation

  Press I (while a book is selected in the satchel) then ENTER to open the chapter index.

  • Browse chapters - See all chapters listed with their titles
  • Arrows ↑ ↓ - Navigate through the chapter list
  • ENTER - Jump directly to that chapter

  Search & Filter

  Click on the search bar in the satchel to filter your collection.

  • Search by - Title, author, or category
  • Instant results - Find books immediately, even with dozens in your collection

  Random Page

  Feeling adventurous? Open a book at a random page.

  • R - Press while in the satchel to open a random page

  Creating Your Own Books

  Add your own content to create custom books.

  • Simple setup - Place your text files in the Books folder with a configuration
  • Customize everything - Set title, author, year, cover color, font style, and more
  • Unlimited possibilities - Create Bibles, novels, journals, or anything you imagine
